As a personal trainer, I really enjoy and benefit largely from HIIT training. High Intensity Interval Training is cardio respiratory training using bouts of short duration high intensity exercises mixed with lower intensity active recovery. The benefits are many but more importantly, your body becomes efficient at producing and using energy from the anaerobic energy system. It also increases your VO2 max without having to run long distances or periods of time.
I have had the privilege of teaching the first half of the past few Saturday Cardio Muay Thai classes at http://www.posenerspankrationmma.com. For my portion of the class I really enjoy focusing on HIIT training using body weight/free weights combined with the more traditional striking/kicking combinations of Muay Thai. An effective ab circuit at the end rounds the session out.
Today, Saturday August 15th seemed to have an exceptional achievement level from the class in energy, determination and willingness to do their best. 🙂 Congrats class!
Marijana Slavnic finished us up (and our last remaining ATP/ADP energy cycles) with more technical combination drills involving striking and kicking and self defense. Os!
