Cycling for Health and Challenge

Cycling is a low impact form of exercise that has a plethora of benefits ranging from preventing some cancers, depression, arthritis, heart attack, stroke and obesity to name a few.

Simon, my fiancΓ©, does this ride quite often to our family dojo and back. The ride is nearly 30 km round-trip and has some difficult elevation and hill variety, especially the Barnet Highway route. I wanted to challenge myself as my mindset is often β€œIf they can do it, so can I.” πŸ˜…

My first time doing it, 59 minutes there and 63 back. It likely would have been 2 minutes less to the dojo because I actually went past Renfrew to Slocan and had to turn around and double back.

I did the Muay Thai skills and conditioning class for an hour, then rode the bike back home.

I did not feel much pressure at all on my body until I was about five minutes from home and my hamstrings started to feel like rocks. 🀣

I did some post exercise recovery via warm shower versus cold or hot bath. Then, I rolled myself out, ate and rehydrated.

My goal is to do this at least once or twice a month for now, as it is currently two days after the ride and my energy is still recovering. πŸ˜‚

To maintain and or improve your health with cycling, it is recommended 20 to 30 minutes a day of moderate to intense cycling.
